Septic services for homes in the Triangle
We are a family business, started in 1996 and based in Durham. Bobby Davis Jr. has 50 years in the trade, and we are fully insured and licensed. We hold the NC Level IV installer grade, certificate 3402, the highest the state gives, and we are a certified septic inspector, 3402I.
So the crew that pumps your tank can also find what is wrong and fix it. Most of our work is in Raleigh, and we serve ten counties around it. A routine residential pump-out is from $400, and what moves the price is on our septic tank pumping page and in our guide to septic tank pumping cost in NC.
Call (919) 481-6929 Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM. Emergency service is available 24/7.
Risers and lids
A riser is a pipe collar that carries a buried lid up to the surface, where you can see it. Without one, every pump-out starts with probing the yard and digging.
We set risers on a pump-out, when the tank is open and the lids are already dug out. It saves the next dig, and it keeps the lid where you, the next owner and the next crew can find it.
A lid that has cracked, sunk or collapsed is a hole over a sewage tank. Keep children and pets away and call any time: that is emergency septic service.
Effluent filter cleaning and outlet tees
The effluent filter is a screen on the outlet side of the tank. It catches solids before they reach the distribution box and the drainfield lines, and it does that by clogging, so it needs cleaning. A clogged filter feels like a full tank from inside the house: slow drains, gurgling and sometimes a backup.
We clean the filter on every pump-out, and on its own when that is all the tank needs. If it is damaged, we tell you. Not every older tank has one.
The outlet tee is the fitting that holds scum and floating solids inside the tank. We check it on every visit, and we replace it when it is cracked or clogged, because a bad tee sends solids toward the field.
Pumps and control panels
If your house sits below the tank, or the drainfield is uphill, a pump moves the water. A float switch tells the pump when to run, and the control panel runs the system and sounds the alarm.
- Float switches that stick, tangle or fail
- Control panels, including the alarm light and horn
- Pumps that will not start, will not shut off or will not move the water
- Replacement of a pump or a panel that is past repair
When the alarm sounds, silence it, note which alarm and which light, and call (919) 481-6929 any time. An alarm on a pump system is covered by our emergency septic service. The repair detail is under pump and control panel repair and replacement on our septic repairs page.
Maintenance and tank replacement
A maintenance visit is the pump-out routine on a schedule: lids found, every compartment pumped, baffles, outlet tee and filter checked, and the sludge level noted so you know when the next visit is due. For a typical 1,000 gallon tank that is every 3 to 5 years; see how often to pump a septic tank in NC.
We replace a tank, instead of repairing it, when the concrete is cracked through, when a lid has collapsed and the top will not hold, or when a steel tank has rusted out. One broken baffle or a bad outlet tee is a repair, done while the tank is open.
Replacing a tank takes a county repair permit, and we pull it. The permit steps and what changes the cost are under tank replacement on our septic installations page.

Residential septic questions
What homeowners ask before they call.
Do I need to be home for a pump-out?
Not always. If we can reach the lids, we can work while you are out. Leave a number, because we call before we do anything extra. If you want to look inside the tank, be there.
How long does a visit take?
It depends on the tank and the access. Lids on risers go quickly. A tank under the lawn takes longer, because we find the lids and dig first. Repairs and replacements are scheduled by the job.
What do you check while the tank is open?
The baffles, the outlet tee, the effluent filter and the sludge level. We also watch the flow into the distribution box, to see whether the lines are taking water. Then we tell you what we saw and what it means.
Can you add a riser during a pump-out?
Yes, and it is the best time, because the tank is open and the lids are already dug out. Tell us when you call. We price it once we see how deep the lid is.
Do you work on pump systems?
Yes. We repair and replace pumps, float switches and control panels. If an alarm is sounding, call (919) 481-6929 any time, because emergency service is available 24/7.
Do you serve my town?
We serve ten counties: Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, Johnston, Harnett, Franklin, Granville, Person and Lee, and the towns in them. If yours is not in the list below, call and ask.
